What to Wear for Fresh 48 Photos in Austin, Texas (Outfit Ideas for Mom & Baby)

One of the most common questions I get as an Austin Fresh 48 photographer is: what should we wear?

Fresh 48 sessions are all about preserving those first hours in a natural and timeless way, so choosing outfits that feel soft, comfortable, and true to you makes all the difference. To make it easier, I’ve put together a few outfit ideas for both mom and baby that photograph beautifully. The key to planning any outfits for photo sessions, is choosing options that coordinate with each other rather than match.

Soft Pink Tones (Warm & Romantic)

This palette is especially perfect if you’re wanting your gallery to feel warm, feminine, and a little more romantic.

Classic Stripes & Elevated Neutrals (Effortless but Polished)

This look is perfect if you want something that feels a little more put together while still keeping that soft, natural feel — the stripes add interest, while the neutral baby tones keep everything balanced and timeless.

Light & Feminine Neutrals (Simple & Sweet)

This look is perfect for a mom who loves a little more personality — the patterned pjs, textured blanket, and ruffled baby outfit add such a fun, elevated feel without taking away from the moment.

Soft Blues & Neutrals (Timeless & Calm)

This look works especially well if you want your gallery to feel soft, minimal, and classic.

Light & Feminine Neutrals (Soft & Airy)

This look is perfect if you love a softer, more delicate feel and want your photos to feel light, bright, and timeless.

Subtle Blue Patterns (Soft & Elevated)

This is a beautiful option for moms who want a slightly more elevated look that still feels natural and relaxed.

What to Keep in Mind When Choosing Outfits

If you decide to put together your own outfits, here are the simple guidelines I’d suggest:

  • Stick to soft, neutral tones and avoid anything too dark

  • Don’t cover baby’s hands or feet with their outfit — seeing these features in the photos is key!

  • Pick an outfit you’ll rewear. Treat yourself to some new PJs/ a Robe and enjoy it when you go home, too

  • If you or baby are wearing a pattern, have dad wear all solid colors

Booking Your Fresh 48 Session in Austin, TX

If you’re considering a Fresh 48 session in Austin or the surrounding cities (Georgetown, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, etc.), it’s best to book by your second or early third trimester to ensure availability.

Because these sessions take place shortly after birth, I stay on call for the weeks on either side of your due date and come to your hospital, birth center, or home once your baby has arrived and you feel ready.

If you’re planning a C-section, I typically recommend scheduling your session for the first day after your baby is born. You’ll likely still have some of the initial pain medication in your system, which can make that first day of recovery feel a bit more comfortable than the days that follow.

I’d love to document these first moments for you! Since I’m on call for Fresh 48 sessions, I only take on a limited number each month, so reach out here to reserve your due date in advance.
